EDF Energy - or Électricité de France - is Britain’s biggest zero-carbon electricity generator, and they have a range of tariffs on offer to help you charge your electric vehicle at home.

Which EDF EV Tariffs are Available?
EDF currently offer three electric vehicle tariffs.
GoElectric Overnight
The GoElectric Overnight Tariff is ‘one of the lowest priced EV tariffs around right now’, supplying five hours of off-peak electricity at just 9p per kWh. This means you can drive a 20-mile commute for just 51p.
It works with all charge points and electric vehicles and is a fixed price for the length of your tariff. The electricity is 100% zero carbon nuclear.
This tariff is available for both new and existing customers, and is available as dual fuel, but you need a fully compatible smart meter.
EDF EVolve
The EVolve tariff is ideal for low and medium mileage drivers, with off-peak unit rates between 12am and 5am every day. The bill is taken from automatic half-hourly meter readings, and you’re guaranteed to never pay more than the price cap.
This tariff is only open to existing EDF customers. If you’d like the EVolve tariff, you’ll have to sign up for a Variable tariff first, and once EDF has installed your smart meter, you can upgrade.
Pod Point Charger Tariff
The Pod Point Charger tariff is an exclusive tariff that can only be obtained when you purchase a Pod Point Charger through EDF.
The charger is a Solo 3S, and comes in two connection types, universal socket or tethered. Once you have had the charger installed, the off-peak rates are 8.49p per kWh, meaning a 20-mile journey will cost as little as 49p.
There is also a one-year fixed price.
The Solo 3S prices begin at prices from £1099, fully installed.
How Can I Sign Up for an EDF EV Tariff?
You can sign up for any of these EV tariffs though the EDF website.
You’ll need a smart meter for these tariffs, so if you’re not already an EDF customer, you’ll need to sign up and then upgrade to the EV tariffs available.
If your smart meter is not compatible, you may be able to have an EDF engineer come and install and appropriate one. However, this is not always possible depending on your location, so get in touch on their website to see if you are eligible.
How are EDF’s EV Tariffs Priced?
EDF repriced some of its GoElectric tariffs in alignment with the Energy Price Guarantee (EPG). The Standard (Variable) tariff which EDF Energy offers came into effect on the 1st of October 2022.
EDF allows you to move between these tariff structures so that you can choose the best tariff for you.
It is worth noting that two of these tariffs are electricity only, which means you’ll need a separate tariff for your gas.
Is an EDF EV Tariff Worth It?
If you charge your electric vehicle at home, the EV tariffs that EDF have on offer are worth having and will help you save money when charging your car.
These tariffs are only available to customers with electric cars, because charging your car at home will vastly increase your energy consumption. It is the most cost-efficient way to charge your vehicle.
Also, any electricity used between the peak hours will also be charged at a reduced rate, not just the electricity you use to charge your car.
Is EDF the Only Option for EV Drivers?
Many energy companies offer tariffs for EV drivers. It may be the case that your current energy provider offers an EV tariff you can upgrade to, or you may want a tariff that includes your gas as well as electricity.
